This is the gift that transports you from the ordinary world into a story of seafaring adventure. The pack contains three chapters: The famous Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old; our peated malt, Toiteach; and our limited Edition, Dàrach Ur, which is matured in new oak barrels.
These wide ranging expressions of our signature sea-inspired taste take the drinker on an epic tale of discovery that starts from a warm welcome, to peaty, right through to a woody finish.
Bunnahabhain 12 year old (“Bu-na-ha-venn”)
As you will no doubt know, the core Bunnahabhain malts go against the tide of typical Islay whiskies. Not peaty or smoky like other local whiskies, this 12 year old is welcoming, approachable and wonderful… the stuff tales are made of.
The nose offers a fresh, aromatic experience. The taste starts with a light fruit and nut and flows to a spectacular malty sweetness. The finish is a rich full-bodied, lingering experience.
Toiteach is a wonderfully uncharacteristic, peated, smoky expression of Bunnahabhain; but stranger things have happened at sea. Very much one of our fleet this amazing malt simply answers the question on many lips… ‘What if a touch of smoke from peated, malted barley was introduced into our distillation?’
And this is an answer worth crossing rough seas for: The nose tells of subtle peatiness. The taste warms and drifts towards a sweet sherry influence with peppery notes. The finish has a robust length with an extremely pleasant aftertaste.
Darach Ùr (“Dar-ach Oor”)
Dàrach Ur means ‘New Oak’ in Scots Gaelic. It is named after the virgin oak barrels this perfectly balanced mix of Bunnahabhain single malts mature in. A limited edition compendium of the Bunnahabhain tales; it is an intriguing twist in the story of our distillery.
The nose tells tales of spicy sweet oak, heather blossom, pencil shavings and hints of pine, cloves and nutmeg. The smooth creamy taste is a balance of sweet vanilla oak with dried fruits, creamy nutty toffee and citrus flavours. The textured finish speaks of vanilla gingerbread and toasted cereals.
