Islay Whisky Festival – Feis Ile Bunnahabhain Open
The annual Festival of Malt and Music took place once again on Islay in May with the Bunnahabhain Open Day taking place on Friday 27th May. The Festival has been in existence for over 15 years with the content consisting of an open day (or part of a day) at each of the eight distilleries, during which tastings, competitions and musical or sporting events take place.
The Bunnahabhain Open Day this year was once again filled with activities. The Bunnahabhain experience included distillery tours, a whisky masterclass with renowned whisky writer Ian Buxton, a Bunnahabhain/Black Bottle cookery masterclass with Graham Harvey and Sheila McConachie, authors of The Whisky Kitchen, with Skerryvore providing the musical entertainment. Visitors to the distillery had the opportunity of purchasing this year’s whisky festival bottling – a Bunnahabhain 14 year old Limited Edition Cask Finish Cognac. Only 472 bottles of this fine limited edition were produced and available for sale only at the distillery. This was released in celebration of the 130th anniversary of the distillery, with a strength of 59.6% abv, hand bottled, labelled and numbered at the distillery and signed by the Master Distiller and a Distillery Craftsman.
