BBC’s Winterwatch film crew and presenter Gillian Burke, joined us at the end of January to film the family of otters who live in and around Bunnahabhain Bay.
The otters don’t always make an appearance when we want them to, but with a bit of patience, the film crew managed to catch some fantastic footage.
Islay isn’t always the easiest place for wildlife, especially in the winter; where cold temperatures, strong winds and lots of rain really test the animals. In the programme, Gillian follows the otters over the course of a few weeks and explains the tricks they use to get through our bitter winters.
It was really interesting to see the ‘behind the scenes’ of filming a wildlife documentary, as well as our otters on and off camera! We made sure to have a few drams at the ready to heat up after braving the January weather, which certainly went down well with the film crew!
Robin, one of our stillmen captured this great shot of an otter on the shore front. Have you caught a glimpse of the Bunnahabhain otters when visiting our distillery?
