Bunnahabhain wins top awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition!
The San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) took place between the 13th and 15th of April at Hotel Nikko in downtown San Francisco. This year, the competition saw 2450 entries from all over the world – from internationally renowned distilleries to small-batch producers – go head to head in a blind tasting.
According to the Competition website (https://sfspiritscomp.com), throughout the four days of tasting, over 40 experienced experts from the spirits industry “…taste every product to decide if it is medal-worthy. Judges do not receive any information on producer or price point, ensuring each spirit is judged fairly, equally, and without bias.”
After tasting, judges decide if the spirit deserves a medal, and if so, which one.
The double gold medal is awarded to “…the very few entries that receive a Gold medal rating by all members of the judging panel; these are among the finest products in the world.”
We are delighted that not just one, but three of our whiskies were awarded this prestigious award, including one of our most recent releases, Stiuireadair. Our classic 12 year old and our ‘super-premium’ member of the core range; the 25 year old were our other winners.
Tasting notes can be found below:
Colour: Amber Gold
Nose: Dried fruit and creamy caramel with hints of brine, vanilla, nuts and a touch of spice
Palate: Creamy mouth feel with a dried fruit influence, sea salt, creamy caramel with hints of nuts and a gentle spice.
Finish: Long and lingering with hints of dried fruit.
12 Year Old:
Colour: Russet Gold
Nose: Fresh and aromatic, fruity floral with hints of dried fruit and a subtle prevalence of smoke
Palate: Light with fruit notes, nutty flavours with a sweetness and slight hints of vanilla and caramel
Finish: Lingering, beautifully rich and full-bodied
25 Year Old:
Colour: Amber Gold
Nose: Scents of rich sherry, blossoming into sweet caramel and polished leather
Palate: An initial taste of sweet berries and cream that evolves into a feast of roasted nuts and malt
Finish: Soft and dry with a delicate hint of sweet sugar and spiced oak that linger long on the tongue
