just don't see why a whisky with a 20+ year matur
"I just don't see why a whisky with a 20+ year maturation in a certain type of wood needs another "active" wood maturation - because let's face it, for a sudden period of finish, the only thing that will actually have an effect is fresh, wet casks - to be a product ready for bottling. I guess cask condition is also a factor here. A secondary maturation in a refill PX barrel could be subtle enough not to overpower the distillery character/initial cask influence. I'm not averse to a heavy cask finish by any means. I love the 2022 CS 12yo, and that's a wet cask sherry monster. I'd definitely be looking for something a little more nuanced/refined in a 21yo though."

Pricy. I haven’t tasted yet the 12y 2025 caskstrenght (which i got as a birthday present) and can’t compare the price/quality at this moment."
