Leading spirits producer, Distell has scooped nine awards across its malt whisky portfolio at the inaugural Singapore World Spirits Competition with three of its non age statement range winning top awards. Bunnahabhain Toiteach A’ Dhà {Toch-ach ah-ghaa} and Deanston Virgin Oak received Double Gold and Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair {Stew-rah-dur} collected Silver from the judges.

The newest member of The Tasting Alliance, the Singapore World Spirits Competition, recognises the importance of the Asian market and the awards will further establish Distell’s malts in the worldwide canon of malt whisky.

This achievement follows a successful 2019 season and takes Distell’s awards to 70 across its Bunnahabhain, Tobermory, and Deanston distilleries.

Of the 70 accolades awarded to the Distell portfolio, across five prestigious international tasting competitions, the non age statement whisky collection has been presented with 19, including two of the top awards at The Scotch Whisky Masters. From 350 entries, only 12 Masters were awarded in the 2019 competition with Bunnahabhain An Cladach and Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà each being awarded the prestigious title. To achieve a Masters, whiskies need to score over 90% from all judges.

Highlights of the awards season also include Distell receiving the title of Overall Distiller of the Year at the Icons of Whisky Awards, Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair collecting Double Gold at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Toiteach A Dhà scooping Gold at the World Whisky Awards, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Spirits Challenge.

Commenting on the success, Derek Scott, Brand Director for Malts at Distell International, said:

“We are delighted to have made such an impact in the very first Singapore World Spirits Competition. The Asian market is an important territory for us, its consumers appreciate a great whisky and winning distinguishes our malts from the rest.

“We are thrilled to have our portfolio recognised by these highly respected competitions – the results speak for themselves. It is particularly exciting to see our non age statement whisky range receive such high praise, receiving over a quarter of the awards.

“A huge amount of skill is involved in creating the perfect no age statement whisky. Our blending team work hard to ensure a consistent and quality taste profile through the blending of casks in these unique spirits, all the while remaining true to the distillery’s individual character.

“We have big ambitions for our portfolio and are immensely proud to have them recognised on this global stage.”
