Cruach Mhòna {CROO-akh VOH-na} - meaning ‘Peat Stack’ in Scots Gaelic - pays homage to Islay’s long-standing peat-cutting tradition, where layers of earth are carefully lifted, dried and stacked by hand. This expression captures a different side of Bunnahabhain, one where smoke and earthiness come to the fore, yet always in balance with the distillery’s signature elegance. It is not a whisky of overwhelming peat, but of nuance and texture, where smoke weaves through sweetness rather than dominating it. Rooted in tradition and shaped by the land, Cruach Mhòna reflects the craftsmanship and patience behind both peat cutting and whisky making - each layer contributing to the whole.
Cruach Mhòna is matured in a combination of casks that support both its smoky character and underlying sweetness. Sherry casks add richness and dried fruit depth, while bourbon casks bring vanilla and softness, allowing the peat influence to integrate rather than overpower. The result is a carefully balanced whisky, where earthy smoke, sweetness and spice coexist in harmony.

Sherry and Bourbon
50% ABV
With no added colour, this dram retains its natural pale gold hues.
A curl of soft peat smoke rises gently, carrying with it notes of earthy sweetness, toasted oak and a touch of dried fruit. Beneath the smoke, a subtle honeyed warmth emerges, balanced by spice and a faint coastal freshness, before fading into a smooth, lingering finish that feels both grounded and refined.
Unlike other distilleries on Islay, Bunnahabhain is known for its iconic, unpeated Islay Single Malt Whisky.
Situated on the Sound of Islay, Bunnahabhain is the most northerly distillery, only accessible by boat until 1960. Now by single track road, it is an adventure for whisky enthusiasts.
Bunnahabhain's pear-shaped stills are the tallest on Islay. Their unusually long swan necks promote a lighter, delicate spirit character as heavier flavour compounds can't reach the summit.
Non-chill filtered with no added colour, Bunnahabhain is a robust, oily spirit that stands up to full maturation in sherry and bottlings at cask strength.

"Got this and another 1L bottle (Tri Seudan) in LHR duty free. I sampled them and just decided to buy and keep on my way to the club. It has a nice smokey flavor and it goes down easy. I'm happy with my purchase. It was a bit less than the $75 price here. But not by much."
