Unlike many Islay whiskies known for heavy peat smoke, Bunnahabhain is best known for its predominantly unpeated style. Its whiskies focus on rich sherry cask maturation, natural colour, non-chill filtration, and a coastal influence that brings subtle maritime notes rather than dominant smoke.

Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old is widely considered the best starting point. It represents the house style well, with notes of dried fruit, nuts, caramel, and gentle coastal salinity, making it approachable for both new and experienced whisky drinkers.

Most Bunnahabhain whiskies are unpeated. However, the distillery does also produce some peated expressions (often released as special editions), offering a smokier profile while still retaining the distillery’s signature richness.

Yes. Visitors to the distillery can purchase bottles on site, including distillery exclusives and limited releases. Selected expressions may also be available through the official website or specialist whisky retailers depending on location.
